 :: Sussex Musical Productions - Hello Dolly
Hello Dolly May 2002
 :: The Story

Ephraim Levi made a big impact on his wife Dolly Gallagher Levi. He preached to her his life philosophy - that money should circulate amongst the people like rainwater. He spent his money accordingly and they lived a lavish lifestyle, frequenting all the best places, but especially the Harmonia Gardens Restaurant where Dolly became a celebrity, loved by the staff.

The Ephraim did a terrible thing....he died suddenly, leaving his wife with well, nothing. His spendthrift ways left her destitute, but Dolly was undaunted, she simply set about leading her life as she believed Ephraim would have liked. She became a matchmaker, a woman who arranges things. Dolly was not to be a simple matchmaker however, a woman of her talents would never restrict herself so ridiculously, no Dolly can arrange "Anything".

So she spends her time arranging people's lives. She is currently involved in the arrangement of matrimony between Mr Horace Vandergelder (the well known half-a-millionaire) and the widow Mrs Irene Molloy of New York City. She decides instead that it is about time she sorted things out in her own lif, and chooses to pusure Horace herself. However this requires some arranging as Horace is already smitten with Mrs Molloy.

Will Dolly's chicanery involving Horace's employees Cornelius and Barnaby, Mrs Molloy and her shop girl Minnie Faye, the artist Ambrose and Horace's niece Ermengarde, and a rather desperate lady called Ernestina provide her with a sufficient smokescreen to baffle bewilder Horace into marrying her and returning her to the high life via his well guarded wallet? Or will Dolly have finally bitten off more than she can chew?
