The main storyline follows the relationship highs and lows between innocent Julie Jordan and Carousel Caller Billy Bigelow. Julie falls for Billy believing that she can polish the rough diamond, but despite a promising start, the relationship falls apart when he falls under the influence of the villainous Jigger Craigin.

The comedy element is provided by the airheaded Carrie Pipperidge who sets her sights on marrying the old seadog Mr Enoch Snow.

The tear jerking close of the show featuring You'll Never Walk Alone, The Highest Judge of All and the Ballet are some of the most emotional scenes on stage.
