The story revolves around Mame, a well-to-do New Yorker of the 1920s, a great party giver who lives life to the full and encourages her friends to follow suit.

The sudden arrival of her orphaned nephew brings a new purpose to her life. Patrick plus his nanny, Agnes,  are lauched from their conservative background into a new way of life.A bond grows between Mame and her nephew which causes a rift in Mame's friendship with her Multi-Martini actress buddy Vera.

With the 20s depression and the lossof her fortune, Mame attempts to find work but her efforts always meet with disaster. Luck is on her side though when she meets southern aristocrat Beau Burnside. Despite his family's initial opposition to his Yankee friend, Mame wins the day and Beau proposes.

But nothing in Mame's life is that simple and further setbacks follow, will she cope............
