Calamity Jane is a musical based on the life of Marthy Jane Canary. Born in 1852 little is known of her early life and indeed her later life is less than clear, muddied as it is with her own outlandish and unsubstantiated tales of daring do.

The musical is set around her alleged relationship with Wild Bill Hickock, gunman, gambler and part time lawman based in Deadwood, South Dakota.

Initally written as a vehicle for new star Doris Day, and a rival to Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun, Calamity has stayed the test of time with some wonderful numbers and easy jokes and routines.
